common female ancestor. In the center is Lynn in her studio working
with silk and paper. On the right: painting with

|
| Profound cultural change, driven by discoveries
trom the human genome, is happening in real time. It's changing
our understanding about who we are and where we came from. |
| Inspired by the discoveries in genetics, Lynn
is drawing, thinking and writing about the connections between
science and art. This page shows some of the ideas bumping around
in her head that may evolve — with collaboration and funding —
into innovative programs to engage people in science. If you're
curious and want to know more, call Lynn at 612-332-2943. |
|
| Lynn has received a commission from the
Urban
Research and Outreach Engagement Center (UROC) to create
DNA portraits of five people from the Minneapolis Northside
community. The portraits will combine population genetics with
a person's likeness in a visual narrative, showing how five
individuals in the community share pre-historic lineages with
each other and all humanity. An exhibit is planned for April
as part of the oepning of the new Center. |
| The BioBusiness
Alliance of Minnesota has commissioned Lynn to create a
work of art for their corporate offices. The alliance promotes
understanding of the biosciences — linking molecular research
to a variety of industries. Lynn's new work will create awareness
of the fundamental importance of DNA, showing how the molecule
is the common link between plants, animals and people. |
| Shown below is a preliminary sketch for
a picture book for kids and adults. It's about an artist exploring
a molecular landscape alive with genes that talk (FOXP2) and
genes that jump (transposons). |
 |
|
| "What I Like About You" is a handmade
book designed and written by Lynn for scientists, science organizations,
and educators who want to communicate evolution and genetics.
Lynn wants to work with you to develop the book into a variety
of outreach projects. |
| The book has stories about
the evolving Y chromosome, jumping genes, and FOXP2 gene are
combined with colorful graphics describing the amazing tricks
and feats in the human genome. It's a series of vignettes
highlighting intriguing new life science. Call or email Lynn
to request the book (shown below). |
 |
| Shown below is a hand printed, silk
bound, portfolio book. The pages are original pigment prints
on rag paper with silk overlays. The book features Lynn's recent
fine art commissions. |
 |
| The portfolio is for architects, designers,
and art consultants who want science themed fine art for their
public spaces and work environments. The book shows examples
of her art installed in a hospital, U of M campus bulding, a
biotech corporation and more. Call or email Lynn to request the
book. |
